Rhode Island Basketball: Rams add Jeremy Foumena and Louis Hutchinson
Rhode Island Basketball landed its first pair of high school recruits under the Archie Miller era on Sunday afternoon.
The Rams celebrated National College Decision Day with two new Class of 2022 additions to their roster. Jeremy Foumena and Louis Hutchinson announced their commitment to Rhode Island Basketball via their social media accounts. The two incoming freshmen join George Washington Colonials transfer, Brayon Freeman, in Miller’s first recruiting class as Rhode Island head coach.
Hutchinson chose the Rams over the likes of Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Memphis, Mount St. Mary’s, Coppin State, and Howard. The six-foot-seven wing played at the preparatory level with IMG Academy and most recently Long Island Lutheran. He hails from Upper Marlboro, Maryland which is the same hometown as former Rhody guard Jeff Dowtin and current sophomore forward Abdou Samb.
After the departure of Antwan Walker, Makhi, and Makhel Mitchell, the Rams add a frontcourt presence to pair with Abdou Samb with the addition of Jeremy Foumena. The 6-foot-11 center is a native of Montreal, Canada. Foumena last played with Orangeville Prep in Toronto where he improved his mid-range and long-range shots. The academy has produced a lot of notable talent at the professional level such as Jamal Murray, Thon Maker, and Ignas Brazdeikis.
The Rams are building a strong backcourt with seven out of the nine players on their current roster listed as guards. In Miller’s most recent press conference he alluded to building a fast-paced offense that he hopes opponents will have a difficult time defending against.
Despite six players transferring out of Rhode Island, Coach Archie Miller and his staff have made recruitment for the program’s future a priority over the last few weeks. The Rams have also been linked to Pittsburgh guard Femi Odukale, Missouri forward Sean Durugordon, and several Class of 2023 players. Rhode Island does have five remaining open spots on its roster heading into the 2022-23 season.
As Rhode Island experiences this rebuilding process with first-year head coach Archie Miller at the helm, it will be interesting to see how the rest of its roster rounds out this offseason.
