Iowa Hawkeyes

Biggest needs: PG/SG

Losing long-time starting guard Jordan Bohannon was expected for the program but seeing Joe Toussaint leaving for West Virginia this offseason was a blow in the backcourt. That leaves Tony Perkins and Connor McCaffery to get most of the minutes as the lead ball-handlers, which may not be ideal to be an NCAA Tournament team.

Even though Keegan Murray is gone, his brother Kris Murray is expected to come back, solidifying the frontcourt. Adding another guard is the way for Iowa to go, one either with proven experience or at least a shooter to replace Bohannon’s production.

Maryland Terrapins

Biggest needs: SG/C

After losing both Fatts Russell and Eric Ayala, the Terrapins were able to land Charlotte transfer Jahmir Young as a solid starting option. He’s more of a point guard than off-guard but can play either position, allowing the team to find any kind of guard. They nearly were able to get high-scorer Antoine Davis from Detroit Mercy before he went back.

Landing another guard is key but also is a center to replace Qudus Wahab, who transferred out and is still a free agent. I don’t know if a reunion is possible with new head coach Kevin Willard but there aren’t better options at the five-stop in the portal. And with guys like Dickinson, Jackson-Davis, and Zach Edey around in the Big Ten, Maryland will need to find another big soon.
