Northwestern Wildcats

Biggest needs: SF/PF

It’s clear where the Wildcats have to upgrade, considering that forwards Pete Nance and Ryan Young entered the portal. The team did land 6’10 center transfer Tydus Verhoeven from UTEP and although he may not be the best option at the Big Ten level, they at least have some size there. Robbie Beran is the current power forward starter but Northwestern has little depth up front so adding another piece would be useful.

They also could use a bigger wing at the three-spot. Guards Ty Berry and Julian Roper combined to start most games at the wing but neither were taller than 6’3. An improvement there also would help Northwestern move up the conference ladder.

Ohio State Buckeyes

Biggest needs: PF

The Buckeyes have done a great job in the portal, landing three starting-caliber guards (Isaac Likekele, Tanner Holden, Sean McNeil) to go with a top-5 incoming recruiting class. Both Justice Sueing and Seth Towns are set to return as combo forwards, while big man Zed Key is set to take a big role in the frontcourt now that E.J. Liddell is gone.

The only area to improve is in the frontcourt to pair with Key. Assuming that he plays mostly at center, adding a stretch-forward that can also play some center position would be a boost to the depth inside. Although if Sueing can come back healthy and play mostly at the four-spot, then a backup center would be all that they could need.
