NCAA Basketball: 10 early big winners from 2022 offseason
Bryant Bulldogs
The program won in its final year in the Northeast Conference and is set to go to the America East. They won’t have the nation’s leading scorer, Peter Kiss (25.2 ppg) around but Charles Pride (17.7 ppg and 8.6 rpg) is more than capable of being the No. 1 option on offense.
Head coach Jared Grasso has been busy in the transfer portal this offseason, landing several talented newcomers. The biggest name is Earl Timberlake, a former top-50 prospect who dealt with injuries at both Miami and Memphis but has the chance to dominate the America East. Another guard leaving the Northeast along with Bryant is Chauncey Hawkins, who averaged 15.5 pp and 3.8 apg in the last two years at Saint Francis (PA) but missed the past season with an injury.
And yet the most famous newcomer has to be Doug Edert, who was the 6th man on the Cinderella story Saint Peter’s squad this past March. The guards average just under double figures and shoot around 40% from three-point range and 85% from the free throw line. He’s a great compliment to Pride and Timberlake in the backcourt as either the starting two-guard or 6th man off the bench.
Add athletic forwards Kvonn Cramer and Antwan Walker in the frontcourt and Bryant’s roster looks more than good enough to contend in year one of the America East Conference and if Timbberlakes becomes a star, Vermont will be in some trouble next year.
