Pittsburgh Basketball: Seikou Sisoho Jawara the ideal next guard pickup
Pittsburgh Basketball is looking to land at least one more guard this offseason. Could Seikou Sisoho Jawara be the missing piece on the roster?
After losing seven players to the NCAA transfer portal, Pittsburgh Basketball has been slowly rebuilding its roster this offseason. To this point, they landed six newcomers to the team. That includes forwards Jorge and Guillermo Díaz Graham, center Fede Federico, and combo forward Blake Hinson.
The backcourt as been where the Panthers needed work the most after losing Femi Odukale. Jamarius Burton is back and Nike Sibande is returning after missing all of last season with an injury. The team was able land starting starting point guard Nelly Cummings from Colgate early on, still the biggest get this offseason. And last week, Marquette transfer Greg Elliott added more experience and shooting in the backcourt.
With two scholarships left, the likely goal for Pittsburgh is to add another guard and a forward. We know a target in the backcourt in Seikou Sisoho Jawara, who recently visited the program and there could be some pending news coming soon.

You can read into that as you like, but I'd take it as a good sign.
To this point, the transfer from Weber State hasn’t gone on any more visits so there’s a chance a commitment could be coming soon. Jawara averaged 12.2 ppg and 3.0 apg this past season for the Wildcats, while making 43% from three-point range. The 6’3 combo guard led Weber State in assists and was back-to-back All-Big Sky selections as well.
A Jawara commitment would solve two solve two issues for Pittsburgh. One is the shooting concerns and the other is a capable ball-handler next to Cummings and Burton on the roster. That way, injuries won’t deplete the team like it did this past season. Another position aspect is that Jawara has two years left of eligilibilty, whereas the rest of the guards in the backcourt only has one. So if he’s willing to take a potentially smaller role in 2023, he can be a leading guard for Pittsburgh the year after alongside the Graham twins, who hails from Spain like Jawara.

It’s not a done deal yet but Pittsburgh looks to be in good shape for Jawara, who would add more shooting and ball-handling depth on the roster and wouldn’t be a one-year rental. His commitment wouldn’t shake up the ACC but it’s another step in building the most balanced roster head coach Jeff Capel will have since he joined the Panthers.
