NCAA Basketball: North Carolina transfer Kerwin Walton down to 5 teams
Oklahoma Sooners
The Sooners added two big-name guards from the portal this offseason in Grant Sherfield and Joe Bamisile, who combined to average nearly 35 ppg this past season. They’re likely the starting point guard and shooting guards on the roster but the wing position is open for Walton to take.
His shooting would be a good boost to the team and would be an upgrade over the combo of Jacob Groves and Elijah Harkless last season. The only concern for Walton here is that he’d be potentially the 4th or 5th option on offense with the guards that are coming in, where he’d have a larger role in other spots.
Texas Tech Red Raiders
The Red Raiders continue to be busy in the transfer portal, landing several key pieces already, including Utah Valley big man Fardaws Aimaq, as well as Oregon point guard De’Vion Harmon. And recently landed reclassed five-star wing Elijah Fisher. There’s also Gardner-Webb wing D’maurian Williams, a classic “3 and D” option.
The team could use a true shooting guard that also can shoot from deep, so Walton could find himself a bigger role than expected. But he also could be buried on the bench if the team lands another guard this offseason too. For a roster that tends to change all the time, it’ll be a risk for Walton to pick them but could be joining a preseason top-10 team for 2022-23.
