NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing 5 teams in play for top-100 G Carlton Carrington
Iona Gaels
Playing for head coach Rick Pitino will always be a great sell, regardless of where he’s at. And Iona has been at the top of the MAAC for a while now, and with guards Tyson Jolly and Elijah Joiner moving on, there’s a whole new backcourt for the team to work with for the future.
Carrington could be a dominant player in the MAAC and have plenty of playing time for the next few years but the roster for Iona under Pitino can be a revolving door with how he uses transfers. But since he’s also willing to use three-guard lineups, that shouldn’t be much of an issue for the shooting guard prospect.
Loyola-Chicago Ramblers
As the Ramblers move to the Atlantic 10 this offseason, they’ll be doing so with a whole new rotation after losing a bunch of sixth-year seniors from this past season’s roster. There are several newcomers to the team, including 6’4 Valpo transfer Sheldon Edwards. With a whole new backcourt, there’s definitely an opportunity for someone like Carrington to come in and have an impact early on.
There are a couple of drawbacks with Loyola-Chicago as a prime option. The first is that if Carrington is willing to play in the A-10, why not pick the local option in George Mason? And head coach Drew Valentine is a fast-rising name in the game so there’s a chance that he could move up to the power conference before the prospect moves on to the pro level. But without much in terms of roster completion currently, the Ramblers can certainly offer that.
