Arizona Basketball: 3 takeaways from Courtney Ramey choosing the Wildcats
By Joey Loose
Another highly-anticipated transfer decision was just made, as guard Courtney Ramey announced he would transfer to Arizona for his final season of college ball. A talented scoring point guard, Ramey spent the last four seasons at Texas, starting all but two games in this last two seasons with the Longhorns.
Throughout his four years in Austin, Ramey’s role was pretty consistent, starring at point guard for a Longhorns team that recently transitioned from Shaka Smart to Chris Beard at head coach. He averaged just over 10.0 points per game in his career, with a career-high 12.2 points per game in his junior season. Ramey played a key role in the Longhorns’ rotation and made 36.5% of his 3-pointers in his career.
With the arrival of former Iowa State guard Tyrese Hunter, Ramey’s role was quickly filled on next year’s Longhorns squad, leaving him to move on for his final year of collegiate ball. Ramey entered the Transfer Portal two months ago and had been narrowly weighing his options, with schools like Duke, Houston, and West Virginia also among the potential favorites to land his services. He recently announced that Arizona was his final destination.
With Ramey heading to Tucson, the Wildcats pick up a talented guard who will play a very important role on a roster looking to replicate last season’s success. The second transfer landed by the Wildcats this week, Ramey will immediately enter a talented and young rotation, but what exactly will be his impact for this team? We’re going to look closely at where Arizona sits and what Ramey brings to this squad.
