Duke Basketball: Projected rotation and minutes for 2022-23 season
It’s officially a new era at Duke Basketball, with former player and assistant Jon Scheyer taking over as head coach, now that Hall of Famer Mike Krzyzewski has retired and stepped away from the sidelines. It’s going to be a difficult job replacing him but Coach Scheyer has the pieces in place to make the team more than competitive for the 2022-23 campaign.
It’s been an eventful offseason for the Blue Devils, losing five players to the NBA Draft. Most of them were foregone conclusions but starting shooting guard Trevor Keels waited until the final day for players to withdraw from the NBA Draft to decide that he was indeed staying in.
It certainly was a tough blow individually but Duke always has options and recently was able to land a pair of projected rotation players for next season. The first was Tyrese Proctor, who actually was already committed to the 2023 class but reclassified to be eligible to play next season. The top-30 prospect adds to the already No. 1 overall class for 2022.
The other commit was another transfer in Jacob Grandison, a double-digit scorer from Illinois that adds both shooting and experience to the backcourt. Both he and Proctor are expected to get minutes in the rotation but how much should they get?
It’s a talented and skilled roster on paper but there are some questions about whether some players can fit with one another on the court. Who among the 12 scholarship players on the roster will play? Here’s a projected lineup for the Blue Devils.
