3. Connecticut

Each of the last two seasons has seen the Huskies back in the NCAA Tournament, and this program is certainly trending in the right direction. But if Dan Hurley wants to complete Connecticut’s return to contending in basketball, then the Huskies will have to start making noise in the postseason again. After a 23-10 mark last season, there’s certainly reason to believe this year could be just as special.

The Huskies lose a ton of talent but do return forward Adama Sanogo (14.8 ppg, 8.8 rpg last year), who should be one of the best forwards in the conference this season. In addition to the returns of Andre Jackson and Jordan Hawkins, the Huskies will depend greatly on three transfers: Nahiem Alleyne from Virginia Tech, Tristen Newton from East Carolina, and Hassan Diarrra from Texas A&M. In addition to this slew of new guards, the Huskies add 4-star center Donovan Clingan as well.

The Huskies are set up well for this season, with some established guards joining Sanogo and a solid group of players. This program has been trending in the right direction since Hurley was hired, and this might be the time to take a step forward, especially with some of the other programs in the conference reloading their talent. Sanogo could have a very special season and it wouldn’t be shocking to see the Huskies in the Top 25 polls early next year.
