ACC Basketball: Way-too-early power rankings for 2022-23 season
13. Boston College Eagles
The Eagles finished with a 6-14 record in ACC play and based on the roster, it’s hard to tell where the improvements will come from. On one hand, the team returns its top three scorers from last season in Makai Ashton-Langford, DeMarr Langford, and Jaeden Zachery.
None of them scored more than 12.0 ppg so unless one of them breaks out into a go-to scorer, that’ll limit their ceiling as a team. They did add Cincinnati guard Mason Madsen for depth off the bench and four-star freshman guard Donald Hand, Jr. could be an impact newcomer if given some minutes in this crowded backcourt.
Boston College did lose a couple of frontcourt players in James Karnik and Fredrick Scott, leaving T.J. Bickerstaff and Quinten Post as the projected starters. It’s an okay pairing inside but nothing that can help the team make a run up the ACC standings.
What could boost the Eagles’ chances is if one of the four incoming freshmen in Coach Earl Grant’s first full class can breakout. In the ACC, you need someone to be a 15 ppg to consistently compete. I’m not sure they have someone on the roster capable of doing that next season.
