NCAA Basketball: Ranking the 8 matchups for 2022 Gavitt Tipoff Games
4. Marquette at Purdue
Both teams made the NCAA Tournament last season but both lost their respective best players (Jaden Ivey, Justin Lewis) to the pro ranks. For Marquette, they have a bunch of role players but need a star to emerge to remain in the top half of the Big East.
Purdue has its clear star in Zach Edey but lacks the backcourt players to be a clear Big Ten contender. There is potential on both sides to have some success but also some clear questions, which is why this game has some clear intrigue.
3. Iowa at Seton Hall
After leading Saint Peter’s to the Elite 8, head coach Shaheen Halloway is now with the Pirates. He leads a roster that has great defensive potential, led by Kadary Richmond and transfer KC Ndefo. How the offense works out will be what’s interesting to watch.
As for Iowa, they don’t have top-5 NBA Draft pick Keegan Murray but his brother and breakout candidate for next season, Kris Murray is. The Hawkeyes are known for having one of the best offenses annually so this game will be a fun contrast if nothing else.
