5. F Sam Godwin, Oklahoma

Will Sam Godwin prove to be a godsend for Porter Moser’s Oklahoma Sooners? There’s at least a chance for the forward to contribute.

This is a homecoming for Godwin, who spent his first two seasons with the Wofford Terriers. Oklahoma is much closer to home, as Godwin grew up in Moore, Oklahoma.

During his second season, Godwin played in 30 games, logging 12 starts. He averaged 6.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. Godwin displayed a solid shooting touch throughout the season, hitting 62.1 percent of his field-goal attempts.

The disappointment is that those numbers were largely in line with his freshman season, too. Godwin didn’t show a lot of signs of improvement during his second year and needs to push himself to take the next step forward.

For Moser, Godwin should provide decent depth this season. He’s not going to be the first option off of the bench for Oklahoma, but he could push his way into more playing time and provide solid minutes as a reserve.

As we’ve seen multiple times, these depth additions prove to be valuable as the season goes on and injuries start to take their toll. Godwin has the motivation of playing in front of what essentially will be a hometown crowd as he looks to take advantage of his major conference chance.
