1. G D’Maurian Williams, Texas Tech

Mark Adams continues to impress during his brief tenure as Texas Tech coach. His latest coup came on the transfer trail, where the Red Raiders added five players, including D’Maurian Williams.

The lack of attention isn’t because Williams lacks the bonafide to be in the Big 12 – far from it. He was a stud during his first two seasons with Gardner-Webb, averaging 14.5 points per game as a sophomore last season.

Williams was also one of the best three-point shooters in the Big South. He hit 39.3 percent of his threes last year, good for seventh in the league. Texas Tech struggled from deep last year, so that could be a big area of improvement.

As a freshman, Williams was a member of the First Team All-Big South freshman squad. As a sophomore, he made the Second Team All-Big South. He almost certainly would’ve been in line for the First Team had he stuck around.

Instead, he continues on to Lubbock, where he’s part of a stacked group of incoming recruits. Adams secured commitments from De’Vion Harmon, Kerwin Walton, and Fardaws Aimaq. It’s no surprise Williams is getting lost in the fold.

But Williams had a number of major suitors during the offseason after starting his career as an unheralded recruit. He should immediately play major minutes for the Red Raiders and perhaps develop into the team’s best player, especially with multiple years of eligibility remaining.
