Louisville Basketball: 8 potential guard options after not landing Emoni Bates
Kim Aiken Jr. – Arizona and Eastern Washington
2020-21 stats: 11.3 ppg and 8.4 rpg
The 6’7 guard played just seven games last season at Arizona and has had a quiet offseason so far. But when he was healthy at Eastern Washington, Aiken was a highly impactful two-way player. Not only was he a double-digit scorer and elite rebounder but he also was the Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year in 2021.
Due to his reasons for leaving the Wildcats not being public, I don’t want to speculate on his status but he was reportedly in the mix with BYU a month ago. He gives Louisville size and a capable defender at the ACC level. His athleticism translates and ability to guard several positions would make him an asset.
Devonaire Doutrive – Boise State and Arizona
2021-22 stats (7 games): 9.1 ppg and 4.6 rpg
The former top-100 prospect spent two years at both programs and never really played much, despite having plenty of talent. He started the first part of this past season for Boise State and was putting up career numbers before getting dismissed from the program.
Doutrive is a 6’5 guard who had 18 points and six rebounds against Utah Valley in a game and is a solid slasher to the basket. With one year of eligibility, he doesn’t pose much of a risk to the program if anything goes wrong and there’s still some untapped potential in Doutrive.
