NCAA Basketball: Top 26 team transfer winners from 2022 offseason
Outgoing transfers: None
Incoming transfers: Kevin McCullar (Texas Tech)
The Jayhawks were aggressive in the portal when it came to trying to land a point guard but they weren’t able to do that. What they did do was land one of the more versatile players in the portal this offseason in Kevin McCullar, who started 49 games in three seasons with Big 12 rival, Texas Tech.
The 6’6 guard has been traditionally a wing for the Red Raiders but last season, McCullar has had the ball in his hands. He averaged a career-high 3.1 apg, including six games of at least five assists. He’s a double-digit scorer as well and can slash to the basket. The rising senior can do just about it all and he joins a Kansas roster that lot of ton of talent, including Remy Martin, Christian Braun, and Big 12 Player of the Year, Ochai Agbaji.
Will McCullar be able to replace all of that production? Of course not. But he’ll be playing more on the ball for Kansas, as incoming five-star incoming freshmen, Gradey Dick and MJ Rice, are more natural wings.
If Bobby Pettiford and Dajuan Harris aren’t the answers at point guard, don’t be surprised to see McCullar take over more of that role. But he can do anything on the perimeter and McCullar’s versatility fits what the Jayhawks roster needs most this offseason. He may be the only transfer the team brought in but he was a big one.
