. . . Blazers . 23. team. 2368

Outgoing transfers: Josh LeBlanc, Jamal Johnson

Incoming transfers: Tyler Bertram (Binghamton), Eric Gaines (LSU), Javian Davis (Mississippi State), Ty Brewer (East Tennessee State), Ledarrius Brewer (East Tennessee State)

Head coach Andy Kennedy’s use of the transfer portal has made the Blazers into a top-tier mid-major program in both Conference USA and in NCAA Basketball. And despite losing a few rotation pieces, the team has landed several impact newcomers once again.

The Brewer brothers (Ty and Ledarrius) both were double-digit scorers at the SoCon level and can easily start in the frontcourt for UAB. Ledarrius led the team with 14.6 ppg last season while Ty averaged 6.9 rpg as a 6’9 forward. Getting them for a 2 for 1 deal was a great move for the CUSA program and could easily be the best impact players in the league from this offseason.

Eric Gaines is a 6’2 guard and former top-100 prospect from LSU who averaged 9.2 ppg. He proved that he can score at the SEC level and could easily go to 15+ ppg for the Blazers. The return of Conference USA Player of the Year and 20 ppg scorer Jordan “Jelly” Walker” and adding Gaines gives UAB a lethal backcourt to work with next season.

And don’t overlook Bertram, a double-digit career scorer at both Binghamton and Charlotte. He shot 39% from three-point last season and adds another option in the backcourt for Walker to work with. Javian Davis is a 6’9 forward that played limited minutes at both Mississippi State and Alabama but if he can give them anything alongside the Brewers, the Blazers will once again have both starpower and elite depth that’ll make them CUSA favorites.
