NCAA Basketball: Analyzing the new 6 options for 5-star wing Mookie Cook
Arizona Wildcats
The Wildcats just had a change in their recruiting class, with five-star PG Kylan Boswell reclassifying from 2023 to 2022 to play next season. He very well could be around a year from now by the time Cook arrives.
With Bennedict Mathurin off to the NBA, the wing position is somewhat open for the future. Campbell transfer Cedric Henderson was brought in for next season but Cook would be a big upgrade. Since he’s playing nearby already it could be a good fit for a one-year rental.
Duke Blue Devils
Assuming that both Illinois transfer Jacob Grandison and five-star incoming freshman Dariq Whitehead are gone after next season, the small forward position could have an opening. They’ll have top-10 class of 2023 commit Mackenzie Mgbako there, as well as four-star combo forward Sean Stewart.
Cook and Mgbako are both quality-level wings that will want to start so I have questions as to whether it would be the best fit for this prospect. The three other options out west will let Cook have 30+ mpg as the small forward and focal point of the offense. It would be a question with the Blue Devils.
