While all of the talk has been on another top-3 class of 2023 NCAA Basketball (GG Jackson), there’s another future star whose recruitment has also been a major storyline this offseason. And that’s the fate of DJ Wagner, a consensus top-3 prospect and who, depending on which recruiting service you use, is the No. 1 overall prospect.

Wagner is a 6’3 combo guard out of Camden, New Jersey who is the son of DaJaun Wagner, a former Memphis Tiger and top-10 NBA Draft pick to the Cleveland Cavaliers. His grandfather is Milt Wagner, a former star guard and national champion for the Louisville Cardinals in 1986. He’s currently with the program on staff, something that’s very important to consider.

Both Memphis and Louisville are reportedly in the mix to land the young Wagner, as well as the Kentucky Wildcats. In fact, if you’ve been following the saga, it seems to be down to just the Cardinals and Wildcats, another battle in this ongoing top-tier rivalry.

While it seemed as if Louisville was in front for his services, it looks as if Kentucky has gotten back into the mix. And with a decision potentially coming soon, it could be anyone’s game for this top prospect in the 2023 class.

Obviously, both programs would love to get Wagner. But which one would be the best situation for him to go to for the 2022-23 season? Here’s a closer look at both the pros and cons for the prospect to consider as a pick looms large.
