Why DJ Wagner should go to Louisville

I won’t go too much further into it but the “family factor” is definitely important here. Coach Payne and obviously his father Milt Wagner have known DJ longer than the Kentucky coaches and know his strengths and weaknesses as a basketball player. They can set him up with the right complementary players next offseason and put him up for success.

The Cardinals certainly will need Wagner for the 2022-23 season. As it stands, the team has just three-star wing Kaleb Glenn committed in the 2023 class, and currently, there’s only one true guard on the roster in senior El Ellis. The team will certainly need to add a couple more guards but if Wagner is one of them, he’ll easily be not only the focal point of the offense but someone that’ll be able to showcase his point guard ability.

While Wagner is a “combo guard”, his pro prospects likely will be based on how good a ball-handler and lead guard he can be in college. Between the two options, the prospect will be able to play on-ball much more at Louisville than in Kentucky. Plus, there are no true seniors on the current roster so if the Cardinals can return everyone for another year and add Wagner to the rotation, this team could be top-20 or better in 2023.
