2. F Jayveous McKinnis, Ole Miss

Ole Miss’ biggest pull from the transfer portal was another forward, Josh Mballa. But while the former Buffalo wing gets the attention, Jayveous McKinnis should carve out a solid role for the Rebels.

McKinnis is a good depth addition for Ole Miss, coming over from Jackson State. He’s best known for his abilities on the defensive end, averaging a combined four steals/blocks per game last season.

The 6-foot-7, 225-pound forward earned Defensive Player of the Year honors in the SWAC three separate times. The four-year starter for Jackson State should have little issue improving Ole Miss’ defense and quickly emerging as one of the best defenders in the SEC.

McKinnis is also a ferocious rebounder. Last season, he averaged 10.3 rebounds per game. As a junior, McKinnis averaged 13.2 rebounds per game, which ranked second in the nation.

McKinnis isn’t a great shooter, but that doesn’t mean he can’t score. He averaged a double-double last season, as he accompanied his rebounding with 12.4 points per game. He’s able to convert in the low post area.

His 38 career double-doubles rank 10th among active players in the NCAA and he’s coming off a season when he led the SWAC in rebounds, blocks, and shooting percentage. He could be poised to make a big impact in Oxford.
