Why you should know Demaree King

With a quick show of hands how many of you have heard of DeMaree King? To take this a step further how many know of his accomplishments at the college level?  My guess would be very few know about the type of player that King is. The senior guard has developed into one of the top two three-point shooters in the nation. He shot 45% from deep last year and that was the second-best percentage in the country. He is a deadly shooter and his 84 made threes were the most in a season for the Jacksonville State program.

The senior guard was a bench player last year and when he came in the game you knew what he was going to do and that was to usually shoot threes. Last season he had a game in which we went 9-11 from deep en route to a 32-point performance. The nine threes were a single-game record for Jacksonville State.

The Gamecocks are going to keep the record books open this year and King is looking to add his name to most shooting records and will likely break his own records. Standing at 6’0 tall and 180 pounds King is usually one of the shortest players on the court, but he can score points quickly and often and when he is hitting shots there are not many who can stop him.

King is going to get the keys to the offense this year and while he is a great three-point shooter, he was also efficient from inside the paint as well. However, he took very few shots from inside the arc, he can still be counted on to make around 50% of the shots he does take. The guard is not going to provide much else in the counting stats category, he isn’t a great rebounder, doesn’t get very many steals, and averaged about two assists per game. Be prepared for a ton of wide-open threes and for him to hit a ton of them.

The Gamecocks overall are going to have their guards shoot a ton of threes, but with an uptick in minutes and his ability to make a ton of them, King should be in line for upwards of 200 attempts and over 100 makes from deep.
