NCAA Basketball Recruiting: 10 key upcoming storylines to watch for 2023 class
What is going on with Bronny James?
No matter how good GG Jackson and DJ Wagner are, or the talent level of both Duke and Kentucky’s recruiting classes when it’s all said and done, the biggest storyline in NCAA Basketball will be where Bronny James, the son of all-time great NBA player, LeBron James, ultimately ends up.
Of course, there’s not much to go off of regarding his recruitment, which has been designed by the James family. There’s no list of teams involved officially, including visits or announcements. And it makes perfect sense since Bronny’s recruitment could easily turn into a circus so unless there’s a decision to be made soon, there’s no point in making it a year-long affair.
But the young James is heading into his senior season at Sierra Canyon. The top-50 shooting guard prospect is likely going to college or the G League Ignite Team so the next months will give out some hints as to who will be involved.
There’s a good chance that the “blue blood” such as Duke, Kansas, and Kentucky will get involved. And since he’s in Los Angeles, it would make sense that USC and UCLA would also try to make a move. And lastly, while Akron from the MAC is probably too small, Ohio State certainly could make a case if Bronny wanted to be close to his father’s home.
There are a lot of different ways this recruitment can go but expect a lot of media attention to come with Bronny James. Even if he isn’t a five-star prospect (yet), he’s certainly good enough to have an impact on the college level. The question now is simply where.
