Kentucky looking to have the No. 1 recruiting class

Right now, the Duke Blue Devils have a commanding early lead in the 2023 class, led by four commits. The Wildcats aren’t too far behind, with both Dillingham and top-30 shooting guard  commit Reed Sheppard already part of the class. If Wagner joins, that’ll put them at No. 2 overall in the class with the best guard duo in the class.

And Kentucky isn’t anywhere near done. There are several prospects that they’re definitely in the mix for, including top-10 wing Justin Edwards, top-10 power forward Ron Holland, and a pair of five-star center recruits in Aaron Bradshaw and Ugonna Kingsley Onyenso. Based on the storylines and tea leaves, the Wildcats are either the favorite or runner-up in all of these battles, and odds are they’re landing at least three of these five targets.

If that happens, Kentucky very well will jump to the No. 1 overall class for the first time in a while and could have as many as four top-12 overall prospects together. And that doesn’t even include Mookie Cook, a top-10 wing who recently de-committed from Oregon and included the Wildcats in his new list of options (although the G League seems to be the next route).

After missing out on the NCAA Tournament one year and losing to a 15 seed the next, head coach John Calipari seems determined to get Kentucky back on top. And if the recruiting momentum continues, they’ll have one of the best incoming freshmen classes in a while.
