NCAA Basketball Recruiting: 10 key upcoming storylines to watch for 2023 class
UConn’s early haul stands out
While Duke is the clear early winner in the 2023 class sweepstakes, the team that 247sportsComposite currently has at No. 2 is UConn, thanks to a trio of solid commits. The most high-profile is Stephon Castle, a top-30 combo guard out of Georgia.
He’s a five-star caliber player that could easily start as a freshman, considering that three of the Huskies’ four guard transfers will be entering at least their fourth season in NCAA Basketball. Castle is one of the highest-ranked players for the program in recent years and is also evidence that the move back to the Big East was going to pay off on the recruiting trail.
Solomon Ball is a 6’3 shooting guard and local prospect from New Hampshire and a big pickup regionally for the program. And three-star wing Jayden Ross has size at 6’7 and is a good scorer and without any true small forwards on the roster with Tyrese Martin gone, could find early minutes on the 2023-23 roster as well.
UConn is already in a good spot in the 2023 class and could be even better if they can land top-40 wing target Scotty Middleton. In the battle for No. 2 in the Big East after Villanova, Coach Dan Hurley and the Huskies are loading up to make their own case on the court. And so far, this recruiting class is in great shape.
