Atlantic 10 Basketball: 2022 offseason grades for each team
George Washington Colonials – Grade: D
The Colonials made a head coaching change (from Jamion Christian to Chris Caputo) this offseason and the roster suffered as a result. Leading scorer James Bishop is back, which gives them hope but the two next best players (Joseph Bamisile and Brayon Freeman) transferred out.
The only player GW added from the portal was Maximus Edwards, a guard from Kansas State that didn’t play last season. The team did go 8-9 in the Atlantic 10 but it’s clear that the program is going through a rebuild. They’ll have Bishop as the go-to scorer but will need a few of the returning role players to step up to be competitive.
La Salle Explorers – Grade: D+
The Explorers made the coaching change from Ashley Howard to 72-year-old Fran Dunphy, now in charge of a rebuilding effort. They lost their two leading scorers (Clifton Moore and Jack Clark) and have just Josh Nickelberry as the lone returning double-digit performers.
The only incoming transfers for La Salle are Hassan and Fousseyni Drame, key forwards from Saint Peter’s Cinderella run last season. But the two of them are more solid sole players in the frontcourt, not guys that can lead the way offensively. The roster could be set to finish near the very bottom of the A-10.
