Loyola-Chicago Ramblers – Grade: B

After losing six 5th-year seniors from the roster, the Ramblers brought in four transfers to reload the roster. Philip Alston is one of the better D-II transfers from the Pittsburgh area, while 6’7 transfer forward Jeameril Wilson averaged 8.9 ppg in four years at Lehigh. Sheldon Edwards put up 11.4 ppg off the bench at Valpo, while Bryce Golden is a 6’9 center and former three-year starter at Butler.

Overall, it’s a “solid” group, which gives them a “solid” B. None of them were stars before but can become a good core of balanced scorers in the program’s first year in the A-10. But if Alston can be a breakout star scorer, then the grade can rise to an A.

Massachusetts Minutemen – Grade: B

The big move for the program was the hire of head coach Frank Martin, a Final Four participant a few years ago and someone who vaults towards the top of the conference of leaders. He was able to keep leading scorer Noah Fernandes back, arguably the most important thing, and brought in several transfers, including backup bigs, Wildens Leveque and TaQuan Woodley.

The big move was landing former four-star prospect Matt Cross. He’s a talented stretch forward who showed potential at Miami and Louisville but has struggled to stay at one place. If he becomes an all-conference forward for the Minutemen, they could surprise folks in the league. Same for if either Leveque or Woodley breaks out at a lower league.
