NCAA Basketball: Ranking the top 25 team backcourts for 2022-23 season
Matt Bradley put up some huge stats at California but in a losing situation. At San Diego State, he led the team with 16.9 ppg and 2.7 apg, while shooting 40% from three-point range. Bradley had 12 games of at least 20 points, including 30 in a big win over Wyoming. He was the only double-digit scorer on the roster last season but the team was able to add help this offseason with an elite west coast scorer.
Transfer Darrion Trammel comes from Seattle, where he led the Redhawks to contention in the WAC in each of the past couple of seasons. He averaged 17.3 ppg this past year (20.5 ppg the season before), along with 5.1 apg on 41% shooting and 34% from three-point range. Trammel went for 30+ points on five different occasions, including a whopping 39 points in the last game of the season.
Trammel was also an All-WAC defender last season so he’ll fit well in San Diego State’s defensive system. Also coming back for a 5th-year is Adam Seiko, a quality defender, and combo guard, as well as Lamont Butler, a starter from last season who produced 7.3 ppg.
The Aztecs will have one of the best defensive backcourts in NCAA Basketball and assuming Tramell’s scoring potential translates, will have a very good scoring group as well.
