4. Wisconsin Badgers

2021-22: 70.2 points per game

After returning less than 35 percent of their scoring from the 2020-21 season, Head Coach Greg Gard managed to get Wisconsin Basketball to increase their average point production in Big Ten play by more than four points per game. A major reason for that increase was the emergence of All Big-Ten Second Team member Brad Davison (14.1 ppg) and Big Ten Player of the Year Johnny Davis (19.7 ppg).

With their top two scorers not returning – for the second consecutive year – Greg Gard will still be able to continue many aspects of his offense with the three starters that are returning, and by promoting a bench player and inserting a talented transfer.

Coach Gard had a ton of movement in his half-court sets last season, utilizing on and off-ball screens simultaneously. With the shot clock running down, they always had the default of getting the ball into Davis’ hands, this season it will be Chucky Hepburn that has that primary responsibility. The second-year point guard will not be alone in the backcourt, however, as 6’3  Wofford transfer Max Klesmit (14.9 ppg) will be spreading the defense with his over two made three-pointers per game.

Jahcobi Neath (1.6 ppg) will not be able to replicate the threat Davis was when using the Steven Crowl  (8.8 ppg) upscreen, but once Crowl is in the high post the high/low two-man game with Tyler Wahl (11.4 ppg) will still produce a number of points. The fact that the Badgers increased their offensive productivity after losing four of their top five scorers proves just how influential the system was in producing not only points but great players.
