2. Michigan Wolverines

2021-22: 74.2 points per game

Just as Zach Edey will remain the foundation in the key that will keep Purdue’s offensive afloat, such will be the case with Hunter Dickinson and Michigan Basketball. Dickinson will be the sole returning starter for Head Coach Juwan Howard, but Kobe Bufkin and Terrance Williams will return to enter the starting line-up after averaging 10 and 15 minutes per game respectively.

Unfortunately, the 6’7 Williams will be no replacement for 6’10 Moussa Diabate (9ppg)  who grabbed a lot of weak side boards when Dickinson drew the attention in the paint, as well as being able to post up when the best post defender was guarding Dickinson. Williams’ production will increase, but not equal that of Diabate.

Coach Howard will have to continue to get the ball to his backcourt and create different ways to create space for them. Princeton transfer Jaelin Llewellyn (15.7 ppg) much like Eli Brooks (12.8 ppg) can benefit from curling off the stagger screen in order to drive and dish to Dickinson. While Llewellyn will not be as dangerous as Brooks in the screen’n’roll with Dickinson, Llewellyn will have his best offensive season.

The Wolverines’ tenth-ranked freshman class is highlighted by No. 34 freshman Jett Howard moving into a starter’s role while 6’10 No. 31 ranked freshman Tarris Reed backups Dickinson. It will be interesting to see if Reed and/or Dickinson are versatile enough that Coach Howard has the two centers on the court together in an attempt to recreate the Dickinson/ Diabate connection.
