Pac-12 Basketball: 5 most underrated transfers heading into 2022-23 season
5. G Jabe Mullins, Washington State
Justin Powell was the big get for the Washington State Cougars in the transfer portal, as the former SEC guard tries to emerge once and for all. Don’t forget about Jabe Mullins.
Mullins is a guard, but not in stature. He’s not big, but he stands 6-foot-6 and can easily play one of the forward spots if needed.
He spent the first two years of his collegiate career playing for a high-level mid-major, the Saint Mary’s Gaels. He played in all 34 games for the team last season, although he averaged less than 10 minutes per contest.
Despite the limited playing time, the former four-star recruit has plenty of potential. He was recruited by a number of Pac-12 schools coming out of high school, including the program Mullins now finds himself with.
The wing, who has three years of eligibility remaining, could become a great three-point shooter for Wazzu. He hit 37 percent of his threes last season, albeit in a small sample size, and should continue to develop that skill.
Mullins doesn’t seem like a candidate to start right away, but he should be able to carve out a role if he keeps hitting on his jumper – his so-so defense is a limiting factor, though. Nevertheless, Mullins will likely be one of the top options off the bench for a team that should be one of the best shooting squads in the conference.
