Pac-12 Basketball: 5 most underrated transfers heading into 2022-23 season
3. G Keeshawn Barthelemy, Oregon
Keeshawn Barthelemy is overshadowed on the transfer arrival department at Oregon by Jermaine Couisnard. Don’t sleep on Barthelemy, though.
Barthelemy transferred from a conference rival, Colorado, so he’s well versed in the competition level in the Pac-12. The Quebec native is diminutive at 6-foot-2, but he has an explosive game that makes up for his short-ish size.
As a sophomore, Barthelemy averaged 11.1 points and 2.4 assists per game for the Buffaloes, playing in all 33 contests. He earned a starting role with the program, beginning all but five games for the team.
He wasn’t the same playmaker is McKinley Wright IV in Boulder, but he was still a steady presence in the backcourt. His assist-to-turnover ratio was 1.77.
The guard had the green light from three and wasn’t afraid to shoot, attempting 124 three-pointers last year. He hit 43 of them, good for an average of 34.7 percent. He was also one of the conference’s best free throw shooters, hitting 82.6 percent, including 85.7 percent in Pac-12 games.
Because of the guards in front of Barthelemy on the depth chart – namely Couisnard and Will Richardson – Barthelemy probably won’t be starting, unless Dana Altman decides to go small. But he may be one of the most electric guards to come off the bench in the country.
With three years of eligibility remaining, Barthelemy could develop into one of the best guards in the conference.
