Pac-12 Basketball: 5 most underrated transfers heading into 2022-23 season
1. C Warren Washington, Arizona State
A big man! The influx of transfers to the Pac-12 is heavy on guards, but there are a few big men who stand to make a difference in 2022-23 as well, including Arizona State’s Warren Washington.
Washington was the starting big man for the Nevada Wolf Pack last season. The 7-footer missed nine games due to injury, but led the team with 6.6 rebounds per game and a 60.8 field goal percentage. He averaged 10.5 points per game.
Washington started for Nevada the previous season too, so he has plenty of starting experience and will look to grab the starting role with Bobby Hurley’s Sun Devils. He’ll likely compete with Enoch Boakye for minutes.
This isn’t Washington’s first go-around in the Pac-12, either. He started his career with Oregon State, but didn’t see much playing time as a freshman before leaving for Nevada. Washington will be looking to prove himself as a real Pac-12 player the second time around.
Washington isn’t the only former Nevada player to transfer to Arizona State, as Desmond Cambridge did the same. So did brother Devan Cambridge, which may have been Hurley’s best get in the portal (though Frankie Collins may have something to say about that).
Washington has two years of eligibility left. If he can emerge as one of the best big men in the conference, the Sun Devils might exceed expectations.
