NCAA Basketball: 8 teams that should target LIU Brooklyn transfer Isaac Kante
It was expected that the NCAA Basketball transfer portal had all but died down this offseason regarding impact players moving around since we’re in late July. However, one of the top rebounders in the country is available in Isaac Kante, a 6’7 and 240-pound big man out of Brooklyn, New York.
The reason he’s available is due to the sudden head coach change at LIU Brooklyn, with the program deciding to fire Derek Kellogg after five seasons. Multiple players have since left, including now Kante. In his lone year with the Sharks, the big man averaged 12.0 ppg and 7.5 rpg in 30 starts.
Kante started his career at Georgia, playing just 10 games in limited minutes. He transferred down to the CAA level with Hofstra, where he became a breakout star with the team. He put up 11.4 ppg and 7.7 rpg as a redshirt sophomore, before putting up 12.9 ppg and 10.1 rpg in the following year. That included seven double-doubles and a career-high 17 rebounds against Rutgers.
Kante isn’t much of an offensive threat, as he doesn’t spread the floor and most of his production comes from offensive rebounds, dunks, and running the floor well. He’s a lesser-known version of Oscar Tshiebwe from Kentucky but there’s a clear importance of a big that plays hard all of the time and creates second-chance opportunities for the team.
It’s almost August and there are still plenty of programs that could use a 6th-year senior transfer with the rebounding skills of Kante. Here are 10 programs at the higher levels that comes to mind.
