Marquette Golden Eagles

Losing Justin Lewis not only is a big loss for the Eagles on the offensive end (16.8 ppg) but also when it comes to the boards. He led the team with 7.9 rpg and no one else on the roster had more than four a game last season. They also won’t have starting center Kur Kuath either after he graduated.

That leaves the duo of Olivier-Maxence Prosper and Oso Ighodaro as the starting projected frontcourt. That’s not a lot of offense and even less rebounding ability for the young forwards. Marquette will have one of the youngest rosters next season so adding a 6th-year impact big man to work on the boards such as Kante makes sense unless Coach Smart wants to just give the underclassmen all the minutes.

Minnesota Golden Gophers

With the addition of UNC transfer Dawson Garcia, the frontcourt pairing of him and Jamison Battle will be fairly solid for the Gophers. The issue is the depth behind them. D-II transfer Parker Fox will miss all of next season with an injury while Isaiah Ihnen is recovering from last year’s season-ending injury.

While Kante wouldn’t start at Minnesota, he certainly would be the first big man off the bench and get plenty of minutes in the rotation. He could play with either Battle or Garcia at the five-spot and create a solid 3-man frontcourt group for next season.
