NCAA Basketball: 8 teams that should target LIU Brooklyn transfer Isaac Kante
St. John’s Red Storm
Queens, which is where St. John’s is located, is close to Brooklyn if Kante doesn’t want to move away from home. And the program, after losing star forward Julian Champagnie, needs more frontcourt help. They did add DePaul transfer David Jones for offensive purposes but they can still use more frontcourt help.
Fordham transfer Joel Soriano averaged 6.4 ppg and 5.5 rpg in 18 mpg as the starting center but Kante could be if not a potential upgrade as a starter, possibly as a solid 22 mpg backup to keep the Red Storm competitive on the boards in the second unit.
Syracuse Orange
Another “local” option for Kante to consider, the Orange was quiet overall in the portal, landing Duquesne transfer Mounir Hima at center to backup Jesse Edwards. Still, there’s a question of depth and rebounding inside, especially if rising sophomore Benny Williams doesn’t have a breakout campaign next season.
Kante would be a boost inside for the Orange and he’s athletic and experienced enough to take on the 2-3 zone system in a short period of time. And it can be difficult to rebound from a zone system and that could be where Kante helps out for Syracuse, who’ll be young inside next season.
