Five-star wing Justin Edwards has emerged as a top player in the 2023 recruiting class. And he may give Kentucky Basketball the No. 1 overall team class.

After the past few years with the Duke Blue Devils securing the No. 1 overall recruiting class, it looks as if head coach John Calipari and Kentucky Basketball are looking to retake that spot in the next few months. They’ve already landed top-10 overall prospect and point guard Robert Dillingham, along with five-star shooting guard prospect, Reed Sheppard.

And the Wildcats are now on commitment No. 3 in Justin Edwards, a 6’7 natural wing/forward. He’s a consensus top-10 overall prospect in the 2023 class and may be the best player depending on who you talk to.  As expected, he was a standout performer this past week at the  EYBL Peach Jam event, showcasing his skills as a natural scorer and versatile playmaker.

Depending on the situation and team, Edwards could play at the three or even as an undersized power forward. Kentucky probably will just use him at the wing but he has the potential to be a leading scorer for the program as a freshman.

The team will be young but highly talented a year from now, if this recruiting class continues to work out nicely. Kentucky is still in contention for several other five-star prospects, including top overall guard DJ Wagner, as well as top-10 overall power forward, and Aaron Bradshaw, a 7’0 center and five-star recruit in the 2023 class as well.

That doesn’t even include another five-star prospect in the mix in Ugonna Kingsley Onyenso, who recently reclassified to the 2022 class. Assuming he picks Kentucky in the coming days, will be an impact player for the 2023-24 season as well.

Landing the commitment of Justin Edwards not only keeps him away from SEC rival Tennessee but also gives Kentucky Basketball a star scorer on the wings. He’s a future college and pro star in the making and Duke fans should be nervous about holding onto the No. 1 overall class ranking because right now, the momentum is with Big Blue Nation.
