NCAA basketball gives us exciting moments each and every season, and clearly, those moments wouldn’t be possible without the thousands of players on the court. Each season sees different players in the spotlight, with rising stars and hot prospects becoming household names, while many others compete for conference titles and national glory.

For the next few months, we will be focusing on this project that will take a look at some of those players. What we intend to do is to look at the ten best college basketball players from the last ten years from every single state in the United States, including the District of Columbia. Our focus is limited to the last decade so that it would be possible to efficiently examine every player who’s played in that time; a task that was not an easy one. With just a few exceptions, there will be ten players featured from every state, even though some states have significantly more high school players that have gone on to play D1 college hoops.

An important thing to note is that we are determining each player’s state based on their official hometown. A player could have gone to high school or been born in a different state than what they are listed as, but their hometown is what qualifies them for each state. It’s almost important to note that there are many fantastic college basketball players who simply wouldn’t fit for states like California or Texas.

For today, the focus begins with Alabama, the first state alphabetically. While we’re certainly going to see some players who stayed in the state, perhaps playing for the Crimson Tide, it’ll be interesting to see how some of these names got their careers started in the Cotton State. Without further ado, let’s start running through the ten best high school players from the past decade in the state of Alabama.
