NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Alaska of last decade
By Joey Loose
7. Jalil Abdul-Bassit – Oregon
Abdul-Bassit had quite the journey from Anchorage to playing for Oregon, where he spent the final two seasons of his collegiate career. Prior to that, he played a role at Monroe College in New York before starring at North Idaho college during his sophomore campaign. Abdul-Bassit arrived at Oregon in 2013 as a junior college transfer to spend the last two years of his career.
Abdul-Bassit was little more than a role player his first year with the Ducks, appearing in 17 games and not managing to make too much of an impact on the court. His final collegiate season was a different story, as coach Dana Altman found a place in the lineup for him. The talented guard started 19 games, averaging 8.2 points per game on a Ducks team that finished second in the Pac-12 standings. Abdul-Bassit had a career-high 24 points in a loss at UCLA in February, while also putting up 12 points in the team’s NCAA Tournament loss to Wisconsin a month later.
In the long run, Abdul-Bassit was just a small piece on a decent Oregon team, one that made the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He’s not someone that most fans will remember, now seven years passed the end of his coaching career. But he was still a solid player who put up decent numbers at three different schools, including some very solid games against Pac-12 competition.
