NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Alaska of last decade
By Joey Loose
4. Colter Lasher – Houston Baptist
Lasher found his way from Anchorage to Houston, playing four seasons in the Southland Conference at Houston Baptist. A 6’7 forward, he worked his way into the starting lineup in January 2014 and remained there for most of the rest of his career, through the end of the 2016-17 season. He’d start nearly 100 games for the Lancers, playing an integral role for a program that had a better record in each passing season with him on the roster.
After playing a limited role early in his career, Lasher scored in double-digits in seven of the final ten games of his freshman year. The following season, he put up a career-high 28 points against conference champion Stephen F. Austin, a season in which he averaged 10.6 points per game. By his senior season, he was totaling an impressive 15.1 points per game and finished the year with the 6th most points in the conference.
During that senior year, Lasher was one of the best players in the Southland, playing a major role as Houston Baptist finished the season 17-14 and in second place in the league. He also put up some very impressive assist numbers and was a talented distributor and rebounder. His total body of work doesn’t exactly scream superstar, but Lasher put together a very solid career and helped this program get better as he got better.
