NCAA Basketball: Top 25 impact freshmen classes for 2022-23 season
4. Texas Longhorns
The star of the Longhorns’ incoming freshman class is Dillon Mitchell, a consensus top-10 overall prospect in the class. He’s a 6’7 forward known for his two-way versatility. Mitchell can get to the basket with ease thanks to his explosive first step and if his shooting improves just a little, could become a 20 ppg scorer in NCAA Basketball.
Mitchell is a quality defender as well, making him a perfect fit in head coach Chris Beard’s system. He’ll be an impact player out the gate, while three-star forward prospect Alex Anamekwe is someone to watch long-term. He’s a bit undersized but he’s physical and also a good defender. Once most of the forwards are gone after next season, Anamekwe could be in the rotation.
In the backcourt, look for five-star point guard prospect Arterio Morris to be the team’s 6th Man. He could’ve started had Texas not landed Iowa State transfer Tyrese Hunter but now the team has a quality playmaker capable of running the offense and allowing Marcus Carr to play more off-the-ball.
Rowan Brumbaugh is a top-100 point guard prospect and former Northwestern commit and has a small chance of being part of the rotation, thanks to his shooting ability. But he’s more likely to have to wait a year before having the ball in his hands more but projects to be an effective 4-year ball-handler.
