By Joey Loose
10. Corey Hawkins – Arizona State / UC Davis
The son of former NBA player Hersey Hawkins, Corey set numerous records during his high school career in Arizona before signing on with Arizona State. After a season in which he was barely utilized, Hawkins transferred to UC Davis. After sitting out the next season, he starred for the Aggies from 2012 to 2015, putting up some pretty hefty numbers for coach Jim Les’s team.
Hawkins quickly endeared himself to the Aggies, scoring 30 points against Northern Arizona in the second game of his sophomore season. A few months later he’d set multiple career highs with a 40-point, 12-rebound effort against Hawaii. His numbers were impressive throughout his time at UC Davis, averaging greater than 20 points per game in both his sophomore and senior seasons. During his senior year, the Aggies won 25 games and finished atop the Big West standings.
For an incredible senior season that saw him lead the nation in 3-point percentage, Hawkins was named the Big West Player of the Year, also leading the conference in points per game and effective field goal percentage. A highly-touted prospect, Hawkins’ potential was shown during those three years at UC Davis, and he continued his career professionally for the next few seasons. He scored nearly 1700 points in those three seasons, making him and his father one of the highest-scoring father-son duos in NCAA history.
