NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Colorado of last decade
By Joey Loose
2. Colbey Ross – Pepperdine
Point guards don’t always put up impressive offensive numbers, but Ross never struggled to put up points during his collegiate career. Another stud from Aurora, Ross joined the Pepperdine squad in 2017 and was the best player in Malibu for four years. He played a starring role for the team, unfortunately doing so for a team buried under Gonzaga and others in the WCC.
His impact was immediate, surpassing 20 points in two of his first five career games, but it was his final three seasons where he really broke out. Ross had a slew of double-doubles and averaged at least 17 points and 7 assists per game in each of those last three seasons. His junior year saw that average soar to more than 20 points per game, including a career-high 43-point performance in a conference tournament loss to Saint Mary’s.
Ross was a three-time honoree of the All-WCC First Team, leading the conference in free throws and assists in each of those three seasons. He was quite possibly the best WCC player of the decade on a team other than Gonzaga, BYU, and Saint Mary’s, and ranks top 10 all-time in the conference in points, assists, and free throw percentage. Ross had an enormous impact with the Waves, even despite the team’s inability to get past those giants in their conference.
