NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Connecticut of last decade
By Joey Loose
1. Kris Dunn – Providence
It all started as a top recruit who opted to play at Providence, not far from his native town of New London. But Dunn wasn’t your average 6’3 guard, and he shined in four seasons with the Friars. Even though he missed most of his sophomore season with a shoulder injury, Dunn had a fantastic career and is certainly the best player Providence has had in the past ten years.
Dunn missed a ton of time in his first two seasons with injuries, playing just four games as a sophomore. Back healthy again, his final two years proved to be very successful, with his impact hard to put into words. He helped lead the Friars to a pair of NCAA Tournaments, averaged at least 15 points per game in both seasons, and had very impressive steal and assist numbers, leading the Big East in both categories. As for impressive moments, he once had a 27-point, 13-rebound, 11-assist performance against DePaul.
He was named Big East Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in each of his final two seasons, an impressive accomplishment. Dunn was also a Second Team All-American as a senior while finishing Top 5 in the nation in steals in both of those seasons. He really impressed at the college stage, and the former Big East star was taken with the 5th pick in the 2016 NBA Draft and continues his professional career.
