3. Tremont Waters – LSU
Originally a Georgetown commit, Waters was a top 50 prospect who ended up enrolling at LSU, playing for the Tigers between 2017 and 2019. A 5’11 point guard and efficient scorer, Waters became one of the studs in an LSU program that had just been taken over by coach Will Wade.
As a freshman, Waters averaged 15.9 points and 6.0 assists per game, while also leading the SEC in steals. He had 39 points in one of his first games in an epic performance against Marquette. His second season was just as impressive, leading the SEC in both steals and assists per game. He played a big role in LSU’s run to the Sweet Sixteen, including a 23-point performance against Michigan State.
After being named to the SEC All-Freshman Team, his sophomore year saw him honored as the SEC Defensive Player of the Year and on the All-SEC First Team. Waters was certainly one of the best point guards in the nation, putting up an impressive combination of stats in a tough SEC and helping lead LSU to their deepest Tourney run in more than a decade. Forgoing his final two seasons of collegiate ball, Waters was drafted by the Boston Celtics and has spent parts of the last three seasons in the NBA, winning G-League Rookie of the Year.
