5. Trevon Duval – Duke

A five-star prospect and top recruit from New Castle, Duval was already drawing attention before his collegiate career. The talented young guard ended up part of Duke’s impressive 2017 recruiting class and spent just his freshman season with the Blue Devils. His college career spanned just 37 games but he made it count as best as he could.

In that season, Duval averaged 10.3 points and 5.6 assists per game, starring for a Blue Devils team that also had Marvin Bagley and Grayson Allen, among others, and that advanced to the Elite Eight. He had a pair of double-doubles at the beginning of his career, including a 17-point, 10-assist effort in a win over Michigan State, while also scoring 20 points in their Elite Eight loss to Kansas.

Duval led the ACC in assists and was named to the NCAA Tournament All-Region team for those efforts in the postseason. His impact might have been dulled by the other stars on the roster, but Duval was an important part of a Duke team that came up just short of another Final Four trip. Duval was off to the NBA after just one season but was not drafted, spending much of the four years since playing in the G-League.
