NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from the District of Columbia of last decade
By Joey Loose
7. Jay Heath – Boston College / Arizona State/ Georgetown
Heath has had himself quite the journey in his college basketball career already. After making a great impact at the high school level in DC, he committed to Boston College, spending two seasons as an impact player for the Eagles. Then, Heath transferred to Arizona State, spending this past year with the Sun Devils and preparing to come back this upcoming season for more.
Heath was a starting guard right off the bat with the Eagles, averaging 13.1 points per game and becoming one of the more consistent pieces on the roster. He was Boston College’s leading scorer in both of his seasons and had a career-high 28 points in a loss at Florida State. At Arizona State, he started off coming off the bench but worked his way into the starting lineup, averaging 10.6 points per game as a junior.
Boston College has not been a great program in recent years but there are no complaints about being the program’s leading scorer and then moving to a Sun Devils program where Heath hopes to continue making his presence felt. Last year was not great at Arizona State, but Heath is in place for a roster that hopes to turn things around. For him specifically, he shot 43% from long range last season and could be a significant piece at his new home in Georgetown next season.
