NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Florida of last decade
By Joey Loose
9. Colin Castleton – Michigan / Florida
A fringe top 100 prospect from Daytona Beach, Castleton is a 6’11 forward who committed to John Beilein and Michigan, arriving in Ann Arbor back in 2018. After two seasons, a coaching change, and limited opportunities, he transferred to Florida and has seen much more success in these last two seasons.
Castleton’s two years with Michigan before the pandemic saw him with very few opportunities, but at Florida, he was given the chance to star. He scored a career-high 29 points this past season in a loss to Arkansas and had a pair of solid efforts for Florida in the 2021 NCAA Tournament. Overall, his stats were impressive, averaging 16.2 points and 9.0 rebounds as a senior, including a 15-point, 16-rebound, 6-block effort in a win over rival Florida State.
For each of the last two years, Castleton has been named to the All-SEC Second Team and it’s clear that he’s made a much bigger impact with the Gators than the Wolverines. He’s put up a ton of points and led the conference in player efficiency rating as a junior. Fortunately for Florida, Castleton will return this upcoming year for his bonus COVID season and will be in fantastic position to turn the tide in coach Todd Golden’s first year in Gainesville.
