NCAA Basketball: Analyzing final 5 teams for four-star forward TJ Power
North Carolina Tar Heels
After losing out on five-star power forward prospect GG Jackson, the Tar Heels now have open room to land another frontcourt player in the 2023 class, joining five-star guard commit, Simeon Wilcher. With Northwestern transfer Pete Nance leaving after next year and Armando Bacot likely gone too, it’ll be a new era inside for UNC.
The Tar Heels have top-40 freshman Jalen Washington, who could be part of the future core of the program. Same for four-star freshman Tyler Nickel, as well as returning forwards, Dontrez Styles, and Puff Johnson. Power certainly can have a sizeable impact here but he’d definitely have competition for minutes against those veterans.
Virginia Cavaliers
The Cavaliers have two 5th-year power forwards on the roster in Jayden Gardner and Ben Vander Plas, who’ll both be gone after next season. That would leave just Isaac Traudt, a current top-50 incoming freshman that can play both forward positions. So in this scenario, Power could slide into the four-spot and get a big role.
Although Virginia plays at the slowest pace in NCAA Basketball, it can still be a good offense showcase for efficient players like Power. If he becomes the next Sam Hauser for them, that would be a big boost for them. And more importantly, beating out both Duke and UNC would be a nice recruiting win for head coach Tony Bennett.
