By Joey Loose
6. Marcus Colbert – Montana State
Colbert is a 5’11 point guard originally from Post Falls who didn’t head too far away for his collegiate career. He joined the backcourt of Montana State, playing an important role for the Bobcats between 2012 and 2016, starting most of the games of his four-year career.
Colbert was clearly an important piece as a point guard, starting from the very beginning of his time with the Bobcats. He had a 19-point performance as a freshman, but his stats steadily increased with each subsequent season. By his senior season, he was averaging 16.9 points and 5.1 assists per game, clearly emerging as an important piece in this offense. Colbert had a couple of games with 10 assists and scored a career-high 32 points against Omaha.
Colbert’s career straddled two different head coaches and unfortunately resulted in four seasons under .500 for the Bobcats. Still, he was an impact player in the Big Sky and certainly one of the best backcourt pieces in the league by his senior season. He scored more than 1300 points in his career and sits in the Top 25 all-time in the Big Sky in career assists.
